Garden Update: May

Garden Update: May

Years ago when I was writing the blog Olive and Owl, there were a couple of months when I packed everything up and moved to France. During those months I wasn’t able to have a garden, but that didn’t stop me from gardening. I simple put plants in pots and had lots of herbs.

Currently, I don’t have a garden at my house (this post for why), but I do have a huge patio and have put lots of plants in pots! All my veggies are at the big garden at a friend’s property. With days lengthening and temperatures warming up, all my herbs and medicinal flowers are beginning to grow in leaps and bounds. I thought I would share some of those with you today.

Medicinal Herbs in a contianer, horehound, anise hyssop, woodworm

Anise hyssop, horehound and wormwood. Wormwood is in the sage brush family. It’s Latin name is one of my favorites Artemisia.

You can have medicinal herbs just about anywhere in just about any container. Especially if they are herbs grown for the leaves and flowers. Pictured above is self heal, one of the most incredible under rated plant allies out there.

valerian leaves

Valerian, seen above, I’ve put in a deep pot so the roots can continue to grow as valerian is harvested for the roots.

Ginger mint is one of may absolute favorite mints. I have 5 different mints and this is by far my favorite. I will have a plant allies post up soon about mints.

Last but not least, is my gravenstien apple. This is the first year it has put out flowers and I am so excited to try one of these apples!

What herbs, if any, do you have growing in your garden or patio? If you don’t have any, what would you like to try? Let me know in the comments below.

Have a wonder day,

Kathryn
