Hello!

Welcome to the Nettlesome Life. I document my adventures in herbal soap making, growing food, foraging for wild edibles and making things by hand. Hope you have a nice stay!

In the Studio: Photographing My Soap

When you run a small business and it’s a one person operation you get to do all the jobs until you make enough money hire someone. Which will be super awesome one day! For now, not only do I made the soap, but I photograph it and list it on the website site as well. Which makes me the media maven and marketing manager… That’s a lot of jobs! I love taking photographs though, so it’s not a hard job!

Taking nice pictures means having interesting backdrops that create a mood. It can be light and airy or dark and brooding. It could be romantic or nature inspiring. Having lots of props and real material backdrops would be awesome, but my studio space is still very small with not a lot of space for storage. It all goes to soap curing.

Two years ago I started looking for small businesses that sold backdrops. I wanted to get something made in the USA. I think it’s important to support other small business. We are all in it together right? So I looked and looked and then came across Replica Surfaces. I was instantly smitten. I had to have some of their backdrops. Over time I’ve been adding to collection to have lots of options to match my soaps and the seasons.
