"Sunny Meadow" Calendula, Chamomile and Oatmeal Soap
It’s the middle of February. The high is 24 degrees today and it’s cloudy and kind of dreary. There is a storm coming soon and that should blanket the world in white. When the snow covers everything and gives the world that bright, sparkly, feeling even the cloudy days aren’t so bad. To cheer myself up I spent the morning processing photos of one of my most gentile soaps, “Sunny Meadow”. It’s hard to feel dreary when you are looking at the cheerful yellow of calendula petals and chamomile buds.
This soap is almost ready to go into the shop. Just a few more days of curing and I can label them and update the shop and they’ll be all ready to make your days a bit sunnier.
Why Choose Handcrafted Soap?
It’s unique. Artisanal items are made one at a time or in small batches. Making an item by hand requires thought, precision and care. Every time I made a batch of soap even if it’s one of my main line of soap like the “A Fresh Start”, I’m thinking about you and the experience you’ll have once you bring home your bar of soap. I often imagine where customer might put their soap, in the kitchen or in a guest bathroom, on a clawfoot tub or on metal shelf in the shower. Maybe on an outdoor shower ledge on some remote off grid property, Maybe in the washroom of a sauna…
Where will that item be when it brightens your day? Every bar you purchase will be slightly different making it special just for you. This is what makes handcrafted such a great gift too. You are giving that special person something no one else will have! How fun is that?
Because I love plants and work daily with them, I want you to enjoy them too. I pick I grow and harvest, dry and process as many of the botanicals in my soap as I can. Each season brings slightly different botanicals into my studio from the gardens. So each batch becomes unique even if it has the same base formula.
Why should I use this soap?
You know the peace you feel on a summer day when the temperatures is 75 degrees there’s a warm breeze and the birds are singing? That’s the kind of lovely content feeling I get when I use this soap. I have always had dry skin ever since I was a kid. Winter time can be especially hard for people with dry skin, as being inside in air that is heated and dry can irritate and dry you out even more, making you feel not just dry but itchy too.
I thought a lot about skin loving herbs and how to ease and soothe that feeling of dry itchiness. One tried and true folk way is to take a bath with oatmeal added to the water. Oatmeal is emollient or moisturizing. It’s soothing and calming and helps your skin find it’s natural balance again. The addition of calendula and chamomile are like power duo. Both skin loving herbs with anti-microbial properties that ease the itch of dry irritated skin. I’ve infused it with finely ground oats as well for gentile scrubbing action.
This soap is great for use as a shower or bath bar. It contains no harsh detergents or additives. You’ll never find SLS or fragrance oils in my soaps.
A really satisfying way to use this bar on a daily basis is to, dry brush, then take a warm but not hot shower or bath using this soap to cleanse and soothe your skin and follow up with a gentile towel drying and your favorite lotion or moisturizer.
Have a lovely day! Do you have dry skin? Know someone who does? Pass this along to them.
