Simply Soap
The Nettlesome Pantry is officially open. Welcome! I thought I might take a little time to tell you about our soap and packaging and shipping. And the simple goodies that make this soap so awesome!
Let’s start with the soap! This soap is luscious. My soaps are plant based, not tested on animals and safe for the environment. Each batch is crafted by me in my small home studio. I start by using plant oils that are responsibly sourced, then I mix those with lye and water and add essential oils and natural plant based dyes. That’s it.
You might be thinking, “Lye? Ack that stuff is caustic. I don’t want that on my skin!” Well don’t worry, once the saponification process is complete after 24 hours no lye remains in the soap. I used what is called the cold process soap method. So it takes a while longer to cure and put these soaps on the shelf ( about a month depending on the weather), but these soaps are so worth waiting for!
Unlike commercial soap bars, I leave the glycerin in my soap, so the soap is not drying to the skin. I use a mixture of castor oil and coconut oil to produce a wonderful lather. The scents in each bar of soap are mild and intoxicating, but not overwhelming. Some soaps can be so heavily perfumed that you can smell them in another room. My soaps will leave your skin feeling clean, fresh and smelling lovely!
The packaging and shipping materials I use are recyclable and/or compostable. I highly encourage you to reuse the shipping box your soap came in and to repurpose the recycled kraft paper filler. I get all my shipping supplies from EcoEnclose. They are fantastic company working on making a big change in the world of packaging and shipping.
I don’t use cheap ingredients like palm, soy, or fragrance oils because honestly, I don’t want you or family to put cheap soap on your skin or down the drain. Great soap requires great ingredients and I want to give you the best.
I hope you enjoyed this little look in to my soap making! Make sure to sign up for the newsletter at the bottom of this page so you don’t miss out on shop updates or new blog posts!
